WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Downtown Sundown Concert series kicked off in Wilmington tonight with The Stranger, a Billy Joel tribute band.
The crowd gathered early, though, by the Cape Fear River for the opening act, The Justin Fox Trio Band.
Every Friday night from now until Aug. 4, you can see a cover band for free. Some concert goers say they make this their Friday night event every week.
“We come to a lot of the concert just because they are family-friendly, and we can bring all the kids down and have a good time. The weather is good and they always have good bands,” said Elaine Madej, a concert goer.
Tonight, alcohol wristband proceeds went to the Alzheimer’s Association of Eastern North Carolina to fund research.
The concert took place in the regular spot down by the public river front this week. However, soon, the concerts will move to a private parking lot nearby due to construction. Stay with WWAY to find out when that happens.
